These days, a huge number of persons worldwide are already infected by the said virus. Its reason is simply because the virus is incurable thus, staying inside the person’s body for the rest of his life. The virus gets to spread easily and fast as a person who is infected with such virus doesn’t always show the signs of cold sores. If you happen to have a cold sore, this often suggests that you might have picked up the HSV-1 virus when you were still a child. This is often the situation in most cases as children are most vulnerable to infection due to close contacts and getting kissed by an infected person.
As the virus easily spreads its infection, HSV-1 then enters your system into the ganglion which is a group of nerve cells. It is in these cells that the virus takes refuge and sleeps indefinitely until the time it gets reactivated. Sometimes, the virus only sleeps permanently without any reactivation. This explains why there are some people who are infected with the virus who don’t necessarily have cold sores.
How the virus wakes up or what triggers its reactivations remains unclear up to this moment. However, there have been some factors that are believed to contribute in reactivating the said virus. These factors include tooth extractions, cold weather, stress, fever, sunlight, hormone changes due to pregnancy or menstruation, certain foods and drugs and other infections. In general, the cause of cold sores is unpredictable and the person doesn’t necessarily have to have colds to contract cold sore.
Cold sores spread so easily in various ways. If you have contracted the Herpes simplex virus type 1, other persons around you can easily get the virus as well. Simply by skin to skin contact and oral secretions like kissing, HSV-1 is let loose. Infection from the virus is always imminent as even those that show no signs of the infection have the potential to infect others. The virus also gets spread so easily through sharing a cup or eating utensils, or lip balm and lipstick with the infected individual.
Cold sores can also be the cause of genital herpes especially among couples by means of oral sex. The cold sore blister on an infected person can also get worse when he or she touches the blisters and then touches other parts of the body especially on parts where there is a cut on it.
Everyone is pretty vulnerable of contracting HSV-1 that causes cold sores. This makes no person to be immune from contracting the virus. Once infected, it is strongly advised not to touch, pinch, or squeeze the blisters. When it comes to the time that touching the infected area is unavoidable, refrain from touching other parts of the body.
