The treatment will depend on the cause. Typically, mouth odor is a result of too much bacteria in the mouth. However, the second leading cause is periodontal disease. Illnesses such as respiratory infections, diabetes, kidney and liver disease may also contribute to mouth odor. Foods such as garlic and onions will also cause bad breath. So, let’s get down to the search of the bad breath cause cure.
Cure
First we must discover the cause of the unpleasant breath. Start with scheduling an exam with your dentist to rule out periodontal or gum disease, teeth that are decaying, etc. When you are at your dentist, be open with him and discuss your problem of bad breath with him. Should your bad breath be a result of periodontal disease, you will likely be referred to periodontist that will remove the tartar and plaque that has built up on your teeth and bone.
Hygiene
Without good hygiene bad breath will occur. Aside from seeing your dentist every six months it will be necessary to increase your hygiene cleanliness. Instead of brushing twice a day, steps it up to after every meal and sweet consumption. When you cannot brush eat an apple after the meal or take a few swigs of water and rinse out the mouth. Floss no less than three times a week and once or twice a week brush your tongue with baking soda. This will help to eliminate the growth of bacteria. Also, use a tongue scraper to remove bacteria buildup on your tongue which leads to mouth odor.
Diet
Improving the diet will be mandatory. It is necessary to eat panty of raw fresh vegetables, drink plenty of raw green vegetable juices, and eat plenty of fresh fruits, seeds, nuts and grains. When you reach for a snack, snack on carrot sticks and celery sticks. Avoid refined carbohydrates which are high in sugar levels and terrible for the teeth and growth of bacteria. If you are a smoke, stop. This is terrible cause of unpleasant breath. Avoid alcohol and ensure that you are drinking plenty of water each day.
Mouthwash
While mouthwashes are refreshing, most of them contain alcohol, which dries out the mouth and ends up worsening mouth odor. Replace your mouthwash with a home remedy of apple cider vinegar and water. Mix half tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and gargle each morning.
Another refreshing rinse that is curative is the peel of a pomegranate. Dry the peel in the sun then boil it in water. Let the water cool and store the mixture in an airtight container. Each morning rinse with the mixture or whenever you feel as though you need a mouth rinse.
At bedtime place a drop of Tea Tree Oil on your toothpaste and brush your teeth. Spit out the Tea Tree Oil with the toothpaste.
By practicing each of these steps, you will successfully combat your bad breath problem.
