People that have excellent dental health and that frequently brush their teeth are less likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease which may lead to heart attacks. This was discovered by Professor Howard Jenkinson from the University of Bristol, whilst in conjunction with the Royal College of Surgeons. The discovery was made whilst they were researching into how blood cells are affected by bacteria.
Up to 700 different types of bacteria can be found in the mouth. If you fail to use your electric toothbrush enough then you could suffer from bad dental health. If you have bad dental hygiene you could end up with bleeding gums, gingivitis and similar oral diseases which are attacked by the bacteria in your mouth. Bleeding gums mean that the bacteria can enter the blood stream and can be an independent factor in causing heart disease. These independent risk factors for heart disease are caused by oral bacterial infections caused by bacteria like Streptococcus gordonii and Streptococcus sanguinis.
These findings now explain why some antibiotics fail to work in the treatment of heart disease. Professor Jenkinson and his team are collaborating with Dr Steve Kerringan to try and develop a solution to the problem. Until a solution is found it is recommended you take care of your teeth by brushing them regularly with an electric toothbrush. Teeth care products like an electric toothbrush, anti bacterial sprays, mouthwash and crest white strips may be helpful in the war against these bacteria.
Those of you that are worried about your bad teeth should get in touch with your local dentist, to find out about the different practice branded dental plans.Dental plans are a good way of spreading the cost of your dentist bills rather than having expensive dental insurance.
