Dental Surgery While Pregnant?

I need a molar extracted and I was wondering do dentist even perform dental surgery on pregnant women. I would also like to get my wisdom teeth removed. Are the drugsd they use harmful to the baby. Anyone had a tooth extraction. How was your experience. I am terrified but I need it. I will consult my obgyn on monday.

Suggestion:

A dentist will only perform dental surgery that is absolutely necessary. That means, that if your molar needs to be extracted, s/he may do it to prevent a more serious infection. However, very unlikely wisdom teeth will be done until after your deliver.

I had the samething but my dentist would not do it until my baby was born

They only do in cases when it has to be done right away. The medicine can be harmful to the baby

I had my molar and my wisdom removed at 32 weeks pregnant. The doctor gave me a note to get x-rays with a shield and he also pescribed vicodin. The dentist gave me A couple shots in my mouth to numb it since he couldnt sedate me. Just ask your doctor good luck

The dictum is " AVOID ALL AVOIDABLES during pregnancy". This includes food, behavior, sanitary habits, medicines, surgery of even very minor nature etc. Normally, doctors other than physicians and gynaec will refuse to prescribe any medicine or surgery during this period, as they stand at risk of being held responsible for any problem or complication. Consult your gynaec and follow their advice.

They cannot sedate you or give you benzos to relax but you can have opiates; they are safe during pregnancy.

I needed a tooth extracted during pregnancy also, I got a release from my midwife saying that my pregnancy was low-risk and stable, was prescribed vicodin for the pain and the tooth was popped out. Novocain is also safe during pregnancy also.

Call yoru dentist ask what drugs they would be likely to give you and run them through http://safefetus.com/Search.asp to see what the risk to the pregnancy is. Most likely your dentist does have alternatives to any of the drugs he would routinely use but cannot because of your pregnancy.

I think it's doable, I'm not sure how.. but I do know a girl who was on drugs really bad, got off of them during pregnancy, and had all teeth pulled and false teeth put in.
