Suggestion:
Well, I am not exactly qualified to answer this question, but I will have a go at it. I only say this because I am a declared mathematics major (incoming college freshman), and I am not going into a vocational hygiene course. However, if you were to look at from an admission officer's perspective, or an employer's for that matter, having hands on practice in the profession in which you want to pursue can only help you, right? I would have a stab at it, then decide from there. I wish you the best of luck!
