Healthy food choices. If we pay attention to what we eat we will discover that if we are eating as the average American does, that we are eating diets that are low in fiber content. Fiber is necessary to help maintain a properly functioning colon. By adjusting our diets to include fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, we can decrease our risk for getting colon cancer.

If you are a smoker – by all means stop. If not keep, it that way. Smoking cigarettes along with causing other health related problems put you at greater risk for colon cancer. Smoking can increase your risk for developing polyps, which are clumps of tissue that grow in the colon and have the potential to become cancerous. Polyps can be removed but if you continue to smoke there is a higher probability they will regrow. Smoking is a bad habit that should be avoid at all cost and kicking the habit can decrease your risk for colon cancer.

Staying physically fit through “Exercise”. Exercise is great for a variety of reasons. Not only as a means to stay in shape, but you will feel better physically and mentally thus aiding in the prevention of colon cancer. Try to find an exercise routine that fits your lifestyle and keep with it.

*Stay away from alcohol. As we all know, alcohol is not exactly the best thing for your health. Those who consume more than one or two alcoholic beverages per day are at an increased risk for colon cancer. It is okay to indulge in a little bit of alcohol from time to time, just don’t overdo it.

*Take aspirin. Those who take aspirin, as well as other NSAIDs, have been suggested by evidence to be at a lower risk for colon cancer. Natural inhibitors of prostaglandin will also lower your risk.

*Remove polyps. As previously mentioned, polyps can become cancerous. To avoid this situation, you can have them removed from your colon. They could grow back, but you should still have them removed.

*Colon cleansing. Colon cleansing is a great way to remove the harmful toxins that have accumulated in your colon. Your body is exposed to an immense amount of toxins on a daily basis (in the food you eat, in the water you drink, in the air you breathe, etc.). These toxins tend to accumulate in your colon, causing your colon to become extremely toxic. The more toxic waste buildup in your colon, the higher your risk is for getting colon cancer. Engage in colon cleansing regularly and your risk will be dramatically decreased.
