Do Your Kids Floss Their Teeth ? Why or Why Not ?

I'm sure most of you here make your kids brush their teeth in the morning and/or before bed, but do you make your kids floss ? I just thought of this as I was flossing before bed and realized it's a habit that I picked up on my own. My mother never made me, nor even told me to do it.

Just curious !

Yes they do. Just like you I grew up with parents who never really made a big deal of brushing and flossing. I had lots of cavities as a kid. I am sure dentists may have told me to floss along the way but if the parents don't push it what kid will?

When my kids were younger I used to buy the flosser picks to make it easier for them and I would also floss them myself. The point of having them do it too was just to get them in the habit of doing it themselves. ow thy are 15, 15, 13 and 10. My older two have never had a cavity, my 13 yr old has had two and my youngest has had 3. I asked the dentist why because I brushed his teeth until he was 9 and flossed. He said some kids are just more prone to them and he gave us this fluoride stuff that you put on and leave on after brushing and he hasn't had a cavity since.

I floss every night as well. My mother had gum disease and lost some of her teeth early and had to have surgery and stuff that I do not want to deal with. I am turning 40 next year and plan to keep my teeth a long time. I haven't had one cavity in my adult life.

Yes they do. It's a habit I've brought them up with just like teeth brushing and washing hands before eating. Mouthwash too. None of them have ever had a cavity. It's a good habit to start early on. Good for you that you picked it up on your own! You'll be happy you did when you're 60 and don't have to use 'choppers' as my grandma called them!

no….My son is 13 and I have a hard time with him doing his teeth…he thinks it's funny to worry me about lots of stuff….But honestly….I hope he gets a cavity in the back of his teeth and he will never forget that type of pain and would brush his teeth and floss his teeth like he is suppose to….sometimes kids have to experience the consequence before they believe you…….
